When attempt to extend the cloud network to the on-premises site from the Cloud HCX UI, the action is blocked.
The system displays a message stating that the network extension must be initiated from the on-premises site.
This issue occurs due to a strict architectural rule in VMware HCX: Network Extensions must always be initiated from the specific site that created the active Service Mesh. Because the original Service Mesh was built from the on-premises environment, the Cloud site cannot initiate the extension.
VMware HCX Network Extension is a layer-two bridging function initiated at the source site. If your environment is configured with a bidirectional site-pair, both sites have the capability to act as an initiator.
To resolve this issue and drive the extension from the destination (Cloud) side, follow these steps:
Log in to your Cloud HCX Manager.
Deploy a new Service Mesh originating directly from the Cloud HCX Manager to create a Cloud-Initiated Service Mesh.
Use this newly created Service Mesh to set up and initiate the network extension.
