Issue/Introduction

Customers planning an upgrade to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1 want to ensure environment health before starting the lifecycle management workflow.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

Proactive validation of SDDC Manager and workload domains is required to prevent upgrade failures due to underlying infrastructure issues.

Resolution

Before upgrading to VCF 9.1, perform the following health checks:

  1. Run SDDC SOS Health Check:

    • SSH to the SDDC Manager as vcf and switch to root.
    • Execute: /opt/vmware/sddc-support/sos --health-check.
    • Review the generated report for any 'FAILED' or 'CRITICAL' statuses.
  2. Run vSphere Diagnostic Tool (VDT):

    • Download and run the VDT on vCenter Servers managed by VCF.
    • Ensure all core services (vpxd, lookup service) are healthy.
  3. Validate VMSP Cluster Health:

    • For VCF 9.x, ensure the Management Services Platform (VMSP) is in a healthy state.
    • Check service account synchronization between SDDC Manager and vCenter.

Note: If all tool reports indicate 'Healthy', proceed with the VCF 9.1 upgrade workflow in SDDC Manager.
