Support for ESMTP CHUNKING and BDAT Command (RFC 3030) in Symantec Messaging Gateway

Issue/Introduction

Upstream Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs), such as Microsoft 365 or Exchange Online, attempt to send emails using the ESMTP CHUNKING extension and the BDAT command as specified in RFC 3030.

Symantec Messaging Gateway currently does not advertise CHUNKING in response to EHLO commands and rejects incoming BDAT transmissions. Connecting MTAs must fall back to using the traditional DATA command to successfully deliver messages.

Cause

Symantec Messaging Gateway does not currently support ESMTP CHUNKING or the BDAT command protocol extensions.

Resolution

A formal Feature Request (Enhancement Request) has been created and submitted to the Product Management and Engineering teams for evaluation in future releases of Symantec Messaging Gateway.
