Issue/Introduction

A discrepancy is observed in the Total Logical Routers count across two Edge nodes within the same Edge Cluster (e.g., Edge Node A displays 95 logical routers, while Edge Node B displays 94 logical routers).

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The variance is typically caused by a manual allocation configuration on specific Tier-1 gateways. If a Tier-1 gateway is configured to deploy with allocation_type set to "MANUAL" and only a single Edge node member index is defined in the edge_cluster_member_indices array, NSX will instantiate the Active Service Router (SR) on that specific node without creating a Standby SR. This leads to unbalanced router counts.

Resolution

Resolution: To ensure high availability and balance the logical router counts, choose one of the following methods:

  1. Manual Modification: Edit the configuration of the affected Tier-1 gateways and manually select a second Edge node to host the Standby instance.
  2. Enable Auto-Allocation: Edit the affected gateways to enable "Auto Allocate Edges." This allows the NSX Manager to automatically assign a second Edge node for the Standby SR instances.
