Issue/Introduction

Any navigation to Operations → Configurations → Cost Drivers fails to load entirely, displaying "Server is busy. Please try again later.".

VCF Operations 8.18.x
VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

When filling out a field for any datacenter (Facilities, Licensing, Labor, Maintenance, Network, Storage, Additional, Application, Server Hardware) to calculate costs, a value is left blank. This may be because the user is uncertain of the value, or the value is zero.

This results in an unhandled NullPointerException in the backend cost-calculation engine, which gets consumed upstream and eventually results in a client-visible NullPointerException, presented as the "Server is busy" error on the Cost Drivers main UI page.

Resolution

Broadcom engineering is investigating this for a fix in a later release.

To prevent the issue, if a value is unknown or zero while calculating costs, do not leave the blank. Enter a value of 0.

Additional Information

A separate payload issue with a similar error can result in changes not saving in Cost Drivers. The issue present in this KB will not be resolved by increasing the payload size.

Unable to save cost drivers, "Server is busy. Please try again later. If issue still persists, contact the system administrator." is seen when attempted.
