This article addresses an issue in VMware NSX where administrators are unable to edit an existing Host Transport Node Profile to add a second VDS (Virtual Distributed Switch) with an additional Overlay network in VCF 9.1. Users attempting this operation will encounter a configuration error preventing the update similar to the following screenshot:
Error: Transport Node Profile <TNP_name> has multiuple overlay transport zones configured and it is an unsupported configuration for the clusters which has custom spans and/or availability zones. (Error code: 640418)
VCF 9.1
The error message correctly points out the unsupported configuration within the cluster where the Transport Node Profile is applied to, this includes vSphere Availability Zones and NSX Network Spans.
This is expected behavior. NSX Transport Node Profiles do not support having multiple DVS switches configured using different Overlay Transport Zones when NSX Network Spans or vSphere Availability Zones are also configured on the vCenter cluster.
To make changes to a Transport Node Profile with multiple host switches configured with distinct transport zones, the applicable cluster must not have any NSX Network Spans or vSphere Availability Zones configured.
