Issue/Introduction

 

• When registering a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9 environment via the VCF Business Services console (register-v2), custom display names such as lib-vcf-lab and lib-vcf-lab-vsan may appear assigned to production instances. 
  
  
• Managed service providers or administrators may be concerned that these labels indicate a lab-tier license or affect production support eligibility.

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.x

Cause

The strings displayed in the VCF Business Services console (such as lib-vcf-lab or lib-vcf-lab-vsan) are non-functional, cosmetic display text labels entered during initial product registration and do not reflect the underlying purchased license SKU or support entitlement level.

Resolution

Confirm that the visual labels do not impact functionality or supportability:

1. Entitlement Verification: The Product column in the VCF Business Services portal defines the actual license fulfillment (e.g., VCF cores or vSAN TiB). As long as the quantities match the purchased production SKUs, the environment is compliant.
2. Cosmetic Updates: You may optionally update the display names in the console to reflect production naming (e.g., lib-vcf-prod) for administrative clarity.
3. Operational Impact: Updating these labels carries zero risk. No license key re-issuance, host re-registration, or service restarts are required.
