Management Packs built with MP Builder don't collect after upgrading VCF Operations to 9.1.1

Issue/Introduction

To improve the security posture of VCF, several open-source and third-party dependencies were updated to their latest supported versions in VCF 9.1.1. These updates fixed a large number of known vulnerabilities in those dependencies. 

As a result, Management Packs built with prior versions of Management Pack Builder must be upgraded in order to use the updated open-source dependencies.

Custom Management Packs built with a prior version of MP Builder will stop functioning correctly after the VCF Operations 9.1.1 upgrade and must be upgraded via MP Builder.

This article applies only if MP Builder was used to create one or more custom Management Packs in the environment prior to upgrading to 9.1.1.

Specifically :

• Used the Management Pack Builder to create one or more custom Management Packs, and
• Have those custom Management Packs installed and/or configured with active adapter instances in your VCF Operations environment.

Resolution

Step 1: Identify existing custom Management Packs

1. Log in VCF Operations instance.
2. Navigate to Operate > Administration > Integrations > Repository and note any installed Management Packs that were created using MP Builder.

Step 2: Upgrade VCF Operations to 9.1.1

1. Complete the VCF Operations upgrade to version 9.1.1 following the standard upgrade procedure.

Step 3: Edit the Management Pack designs in Management Pack Builder

1. Launch the updated Management Pack Builder from Build > Developer Center > Management Pack Builder 
2. Open the design of your existing custom Management Pack.
3. Make a minor change to the design (for example, edit the description) to register a modification.

Step 4: Upgrade the Management Pack

1. Within the design, navigate to step 7 (Install) and execute the upgrade for the Management Pack.

Step 5: Verify collection has resumed

1. Navigate to Operate > Administration > Integrations and select the adapter instance(s) associated with the recreated custom MP.
2. After ten minutes, confirm the adapter status shows Data Receiving.
3. Confirm metrics/properties are populating as expected for the custom object types.

Impact if Not Addressed

Custom Management Packs built with a pre-9.1.1 version of MP Builder will stop collecting data after the VCF Operations upgrade to 9.1.1.

This results in stale or missing metrics, properties, and alerts for the objects defined in the custom MP, until the MP is recreated with the updated builder and reinstalled.
