Adding email addresses with wildcard threw 'The email address provided is not valid...' error

Issue/Introduction

Adding email addresses with wildcard and other specific special characters (^ & % $) such as *@example.com in User Groups was rejected with error "The email address provided is not valid. Please refer to help documentation for email address format requirements."

Environment

Email Security.cloud

Cause

As of 29 Aug 2026, specific special characters (* ^ & % $) can no longer be added as Group Members in User Group, and this change is permanent. Existing entries that have the special characters remain as is.

Resolution

Users can use Rules and Conditions under Data Protection policy for instance.
