Pairing an existing collector to a new platform fails

Issue/Introduction

• Registration of an existing collector to a new VCF Operations for Networks platform appliance fails.
  
  
• The collector pairing completes successfully and reports "Platform VM Pairing Status: Passed" in Collector's CLI. However, the collector does not register with the new platform and do not appear under Infrastructure and Updates → Collector in the UI.

Cause

As documented here , existing Collector cannot be pointed /registered to a new Platform.

Resolution

Collectors must be freshly deployed and paired with the new platform using a unique shared secret generated from the new platform's interface. Attempting to use existing collectors will inherently result in failed registration and pairing.

Recommendation:

When migrating environments, you must deploy new collector appliances rather than attempting to reuse existing ones.

To securely and properly migrate data sources to a new platform, perform the following steps based on your current access:

If you can access the VMware Aria Operations for Networks web portal:

1. Log in to the VMware Aria Operations for Networks web portal.
2. Navigate to Settings > Accounts and Datasources.
3. Turn off and delete all datasources.

Note: Deletion of the vCenter datasource removes IPFIX settings (if configured) on VDS. Similarly, the deletion of the NSX Manager datasource removes IPFIX settings from the NSX Flow Monitor.
