Symantec VIP endpoint SSL certificate expiration and renewal

Issue/Introduction

To comply with recent changes to TLS certificate standards, DigiCert has begun shortening the lifespan of SSL certificates. As a result, the following SSL certificate changes are in effect for all VIP Service endpoints:

• As of March 2026, SSL certificate lifespan is 200 days.
• Around March 2027, the SSL certificate lifespan will be 100 days.
• Around March 2029, the SSL certificate lifespan will be 47 days.

This change applies to all Symantec VIP endpoints, including:

• manager.vip.symantec.com
• ssp.vip.symantec.com
• login.vip.symantec.com
• my.vip.symantec.com
• services-auth.vip.symantec.com
• services.vip.symantec.com
• userservices.vip.symantec.com
• userservices-auth.vip.symantec.com
• messaging.vip.symantec.com
• goidservices-auth.vip.symantec.com

Important: VIP certificates issued from your VIP Manager Tenant are not affected. 

Cause

Additional information: TLS Certificate Lifetimes Will Officially Reduce to 47 Days. This will result in an increase in certificate rotation frequency as validity periods are reduced.

According to the voting panel: "...shorter lifetimes are necessary for many reasons, the most prominent being this: The information in certificates is becoming steadily less trustworthy over time, a problem that can only be mitigated by frequently revalidating the information."

Resolution

SSL rotations occur prior to expiration during routine monthly VIP maintenance.
