SFTP Backup Configuration for VCF Management Services fails with the VCFMS-MACHINE-003 error in VCF 9.1

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1, attempting to configure the SFTP backup location for VCF Management Service fails during the validation precheck stage.

Console log snippets contain the following error in the failed task:

services-logs/vmsp-platform/vsp01-####/vmsp-operator-####-####/vmsp-operator/console-log-#####.log

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1

Cause

A vCenter Server certificate thumbprint mismatch occurred as a result of a PNID change (such as changing the PNID to lowercase) during the VCF 9.1 upgrade process.

Resolution

The information for the certificate used internally needs to be corrected. Please contact Broadcom Support.

Additional Information

Additionally, a certificate thumbprint mismatch causes the Fleet Lifecycle upgrade to fail with the following error:

Platform Health Check Error [platform-vmsp-platform-validate-template-vsphere-resources: unable to create vSphere client: failed to create vsphere client: Post "https://[FQDN]/sdk": host [FQDN]:443" thumbprint does not match "[thumbprint]" [VCFMS-HEALTH-002]]
