Issue/Introduction

In VMware Aria Automation, virtual machine power state fails to synchronize or update in the UI after being changed in vCenter. This issue occurs during the data collection cycle for both Managed and Discovered (unmanaged) virtual machines.

Symptoms:

  • Powering On/Off a VM in vCenter is not reflected in the Aria Automation Managed and Discovered tabs.

  • IP address details for the affected VMs are not discovered or updated.

  • The /services-logs/prelude/provisioning-service-app/file-logs/provisioning-service-app.log contains the following error: Exception: [java.util.concurrent.CompletionException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: property 'config.name' not fetched

Environment

Aria Automation 8.18.1 Patch 5

Cause

This issue is caused by a product defect introduced in Patch 5 of Aria Automation 8.18.1. The resource enumeration logic in the Provisioning Service fails to properly fetch the config.name property from the vSphere Moref, leading to a java.lang.IllegalArgumentException which terminates the update process for that resource.

Resolution

The VM Power Status sync issue in Aria Automation 8.18.1 Patch 5 will be officially addressed in the upcoming Aria Automation 8.18.1 Patch 6 release.
