Veeam backup is failing for a Virtual Machine on the entire ESXi node

Issue/Introduction

• Veeam Backup fails during data transfer the connection is unexpectedly reset with the below error:

NFC_NETWORK_ERROR
NfcNetTcpSetError: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
NBD_ERR_NETWORK_CONNECT
VDDK async operation error: 14009

• Veeam connects to vCenter and ESXi host successfully.
• NFC connection is established on TCP port 902.
• The VMDK opens successfully using NBD transport.

Environment

VMware vSphere 8.x

Cause

The IP policy for the Virtual Machine is restricted within the hardware firewall, preventing necessary communication on port 902.

Resolution

In order to resolve the issue check the IP policy restrictions on the hardware firewall and correct.
