Issue/Introduction

This article provides instructions for configuring email notifications for cluster-level status events in Symantec Privileged Access Manager (PAM) 4.3.x. These events include database cluster replication status, cluster recovery, and cluster failure.

Environment

  • Product: CA Privileged Access Manager (PAM)
  • Release: 4.3.x
  • Environment: Clustered environments

Resolution

To receive email notifications for cluster status events, perform the following configuration on each node in the cluster individually:

  1. Log in to the PAM Web GUI on a server that is a member of the primary site.
  2. Navigate to Configuration > Monitor (Legacy).
  3. Locate the General Monitoring Parameters section.
  4. In the Admin Email field, enter the destination email address for the alerts.
  5. Ensure that your SMTP server settings are correctly configured under Configuration > Email Setting (this is a global setting, this must be changed from any primary cluster node) to allow the appliance to send messages.
  6. Click Update to save the changes.
  7. Stop and restart the monitoring process from the Monitor (Legacy) tab for the changes to take effect.

Important Considerations:

  • Non-Replicated Settings: These settings are not synchronized automatically across the cluster. You must log in to each primary member individually to set the email address and notification preferences.
  • Monitoring Service: The Monitor (Legacy) service must be running for alerts to be generated.
  • Triggering: Alerts are most reliable for unplanned downtime. Graceful shutdowns performed via the UI may not always trigger a "failure" alert.
  • SMTP Relay: Ensure your SMTP relay is not blocking the "Appliance From Address" or the IP address of the PAM node.
