Issue/Introduction

All vSphere Replication (VR) tasks in the environment fail following an upgrade of the vCenter Server and ESXi host infrastructure.

The following error is observed in the replication status:
A replication error occurred at the vSphere Replication Server for replication '<REDACTED_JOB>'. Details: 'No connection to VR Server for virtual machine <REDACTED_VM> on host <REDACTED_HOSTNAME> in cluster <REDACTED_CLUSTER> in <REDACTED_SITE>: Unknown'.

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 9.0.2

vCenter Server 8.0u3

Cause

Infrastructure upgrades often update internal SSL certificates, management plane endpoints, or host SSL thumbprints. When infrastructure updates complete without reconfiguring, the vSphere Replication Server fails to validate host identities or maintain established communication channels, resulting in connection errors and UI thumbprint warnings.

Resolution

  1. Perform a reconfigure for the impacted SRM applainces to update target host bindings and re-establish communication.

  2. If there is a warning next to the thumbprint post reconfigure , review the SRM Connection Thumbprint Warning Symbol guide.

  3. Confirm that the replication status transitions to Normal and delta synchronizations resume.

  4. If After a reconfigure the  "No connection to VR Server for virtual machine" persists review No connection to VR Server for virtual machine: Not responding
