Unable to find option to update the VMware tools for the VM which was deployed in VCF Automation into supervisor cluster namespace

Issue/Introduction

This article addresses the limitation where VMware Tools cannot be natively updated for virtual machines (VMs) deployed via VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Automation within a supervisor cluster namespace.

Environment

VCF Automation 9.x

Cause

The native functionality to update VMware Tools for a deployed VM, either manually or automatically via standard vSphere methods, is not natively available in VCF Automation when deployed in supervisor cluster namespaces.

Resolution

Because native update options are unavailable, use the following workaround:

1. Configure a Custom Resource Action within VCF Automation to handle the VMware Tools update process as an extensibility option.
2. Monitor for future release updates, as a feature request has been submitted to the Development team to incorporate native functionality.
