Nimsoft Infrastructure version not updated in Windows Programs and Features after manual upgrade

Issue/Introduction

When upgrading manually (robot_update) a (UIM) hub that was deployed via Nimsoft Infrastructure.exe the installed version reported in Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features may not reflect the actual version of the running robot. This article explains why this occurs and how to verify the correct version.

Environment

• DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) 23.4.*
• Windows-based Hubs/Robots

Cause

This behavior is by design. The manual drag-and-drop upgrade method only replaces the necessary binary files and does not trigger the Windows Installer registration process. Consequently, the entry in the Windows "Programs and Features" list (originally created by the Nimsoft Infrastructure.exe installer) remains static and does not update to reflect the version of the robot or hub components deployed manually.

Resolution

The 23.4.9 (CU9) robot_update that will be released later in 2026, will address  the version reporting in Windows for manual upgrades. 

In the meanwhile:

1. To determine the actual version of the running robot or hub, use the controller version in Infrastructure Manager (IM) GUI.
2. Select the robot/hub in the IM tree.
3. Check the version displayed in the general status information pane.
