Issue/Introduction

Question:

Does CA FAVER support the EXPORT or BACKUP of NON-VSAM datasets, ICF Catalogs, and FLASHCOPY datasets?

Answer:

CA FAVER is a VSAM optimization utility. Its primary design and function is to EXPORT and RESTORE(IMPORT) VSAM files. CA FAVER is a superior product based on its speed during EXPORT of VSAM files saving customers significant processor and clock time in their batch processing windows.

CA FAVER is not intended to be utilized as a backup database and has not designed for any other DSORGs other than VSAM. Although many customers utilize CA FAVER to make copies of VSAM files for recovery purposes CA FAVER is not a Database Management utility.

ICF catalogs, although VSAM files are not supported as an EXPORT feature for CA FAVER. Utilities such as CA CREWS is designed for this purpose and is a companion product to CA FAVER.

IBM's FLASCOPY is a specific utility based upon the DFDSS data movers. CA FAVER does not maintain or utilize the FLASCOPY functions.
