No data displays when using page-level Iteration filter on Rally Custom View apps

Issue/Introduction

 Page-level Iteration filter shows no data on Rally Custom View apps

Symptom

When a Custom View page's page filter is set to filter by Iteration, the apps on that page display no data — grids and charts render empty even though matching work items exist. This does not happen when the page filter is set to Release or Milestone instead of Iteration.

Cause

This typically occurs when the page has been pinned to a specific project, and the project currently in scope (based on the user's navigation/project picker) does not share the same like timebox (iteration) schema as the pinned project. Because Iterations are project-scoped in Rally, the Iteration selected in the page filter may not exist — or may not match — in the context of the project scope actually being applied when the page loads. The apps then have no valid Iteration to resolve against, so they return no data.

Resolution

Instead of using the page-level filter to scope by Iteration, configure the Iteration filter at the individual widget level:

1. Open the widget's configuration (gear icon) for each affected widget on the page. 

2.  If the widget is a custom list or custom board, then select the Ignore View Filter option in configuration.  Add a filter in edit mode to filter by iteration or use the selector that is available when ignore view filter is selected.  
3.  Save the widget configuration and the page.

Note: This is more tedious on pages with many widgets, or when the page needs to be saved with a specific Iteration applied for multiple users — the workaround must be repeated per widget, per page.
