PGP Command Line encounters "Operation Failed" errors in a rare scenario during iterative encryption operations with PGP Encryption Server (USP/KMS)

Issue/Introduction

This article will discuss the scenario where PGP Command Line encounters "Operation Failed" errors during some extremely rare conditions.  The PGP Command Line uses the PGP Encryption Server to manage keys during these encryption operations with PGP Encryption Server (USP/KMS).

Environment

PGP Command Line 11.0.1 through 11.5.2 

PGP Encryption Server 11.0.1 through 11.5.2

Cause

PGP Command Line may encounter an "Operation Failed" error or possibly fail an encryption/decryption job when performing an iterative or successive task in environments utilizing the PGP Encryption Server for USP/KMS functionality. Resolution

As this issue would happen during high-frequency or repetitive operations such as those triggered by workload automation tools (e.g., UC4/Automic), the scenario may never manifest in most environments.  Although the likelihood is very rare, a fix is currently being reviewed and will be included in an upcoming release of PGP Command Line.
