Error: "526 and response Invalid SSL Certificate (connectivity_failure_reason=<unset>, reason=INVALID_SSL_CERTIFICATE)" from license server

Issue/Introduction

• Unable to assign VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) licenses to vCenter Server via VCF Operations. When attempting to sync entitlements, the following error is reported in the VCF Operations collector logs:
  Failed to get Entitlements [<REDACTED_SECRET>] from License Server [<REDACTED_SECRET>] with URL [<REDACTED_HOSTNAME>] with response [License Server returned unexpected status code: 526 and response Invalid SSL Certificate]

Cause

• A localized SSL trust mismatch or communication failure exists specifically on the primary (master) VCF Operations node, preventing it from successfully validating the VCF License Server certificate during the entitlement synchronization task.

Resolution

 

1. Identify the FQDN or IP address of the VCF Operations replica node.

2. Log in directly to the VCF Operations replica node user interface using administrative credentials.

3. Navigate to the licensing section and manually initiate the license assignment to the target vCenter Server.

4. Verify the entitlement sync completes successfully without the HTTP 526 error.
