Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading to vCenter 9.1, users may experience inconsistent permission issues or interface failures (e.g., snapshots failing to restore, spinning icons) within the vSphere Client.

  • This behavior is observed under the following specific conditions:

    • The client browser's preferred language is set to a language other than English (EN), Spanish (ES), French (FR), or Japanese (JP).

    • The user language preference within the vSphere Client application is set to "Browser Default."

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 9.x

Cause

This issue is observed in vCenter 9.1 GA and caused by the vSphere Client incorrectly handles locale data when the browser language does not match the internally supported languages.

This results in functional failures or permission errors.

Resolution

This issue is scheduled to be resolved in the vCenter 9.1.2.0 patch release.

Workaround:

To mitigate the immediate issue, users can explicitly set their language preference in the vSphere Client:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to your user profile settings (top-right corner).
  3. Select My Preferences.
  4. Under the Language setting, change the preference from "Browser Default" to one of the supported languages: English, Spanish, French, or Japanese.
  5. Save the changes.

The vSphere Client interface will now correctly load the necessary locale data, and functionality should be restored.
