Issue/Introduction

Aria Automation may mark IP addresses as allocated to a "Missing resource" following a virtual machine restoration from backup.

This occurs when the management plane loses tracking of the original resource mapping, preventing the IP from being released for new deployments.

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.18

Cause

An out-of-sync state occurs in the provisioning-db when a virtual machine is restored from a backup or migrated outside of standard Aria Automation management.

The IP address allocation remains tied to the previous, now "Missing resource", mapping in the database, while the new virtual machine identity has not been reconciled.

Resolution

1. Preliminary Checks

  1. Log in to the Aria Automation console.
  2. Navigate to Infrastructure > Resources > Networks > IP Addresses.
  3. Filter for IPs marked as allocated to a "Missing" resource.

2. Quick Release (UI)

  1. If the IP address is unlinked (Resource field is blank), select the IP address.
  2. Click Release.
  3. Verify if the IP now appears as "Available" for new deployments.
