Intermittent NSX Manager Cluster Backup Failures (Error 36219)

Issue/Introduction

When performing an NSX Manager cluster backup to an SFTP repository, the backup operation intermittently fails with error code 36219 ("Specified uri not found"). The error typically appears in the node-mgmt log file during the cluster backup file copy operation.

• Backup copy operation fails with "404 Not Found" or "Specified uri not found."
• Connectivity tests (ping, telnet) to the SFTP server succeed.
• SFTP server disk space is verified as sufficient.
• The issue is intermittent; some backups complete successfully, while others fail on the same path.

Environment

• NSX Manager (Local and/or Global)
• SFTP Backup Repository

Cause

This issue is caused by a transient service-level anomaly within the node-mgmt component of the NSX Manager. This state can cause the service to fail to locate the target URI during the file copy phase of the backup process, even when the destination and network path are healthy.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform a rolling reboot of the NSX Manager cluster nodes:

1. Verify Environment: Ensure that the backup folder path on the SFTP server is correctly configured and has a trailing slash (e.g., /files/nsx/backups/) and it's not related to path length limit as KB 76528. 
2. Maintenance Window: Schedule a maintenance window to restart the NSX Manager cluster.
3. Rolling Reboot: Perform a rolling reboot of all NSX Manager cluster nodes.
4. Verification: Once all nodes have restarted and services are stable, initiate a manual backup from the NSX Manager to verify that the file copy operation completes successfully.

If the issue persists after a rolling reboot, collect a fresh log bundle (sos report) and engage Broadcom Support for a deep-dive investigation.
