Issue/Introduction

Transfer an instance to a different Tenant ID

Environment

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1

• VCF Operations 9.x

• VCF Business Services Console (BSC)

Cause

In VCF 9.1, the centralized License Server maintains a record of core entitlements. When an instance is moved to a new tenant, the background registration must be manually released and the integration refreshed to allow the new Tenant to claim the instance capacity. If the SDDC Manager UI/API is unresponsive, the integration adapter will fail to synchronize the new license state.

Resolution

1. Log in to the VCF Business Services Console as an administrator.
2. Navigate to License Management > VCF Operations Registrations.
3. Locate the target instance, click the ellipsis (...), and select Deactivate.
4. Log in to the VCF Operations UI.
5. Navigate to License Management > Registration.
6. Click Actions and select Restart Registration.
7. Enter the new Activation Code and Site ID provided by the target tenant.
8. Once connected, navigate to the License Server integration settings.
9. Click Reclaim Used Capacity to release core entitlements from the old tenant pool.
10. Toggle the Activate license and vSphere Client plug-in management setting to Off, then back to On to refresh the integration.
