VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

  • Attempts to enable IPFIX/NetFlow for a vCenter Server data source in the VCF Operations UI fails.
  • The NetFlow configuration at the VDS level in vCenter may not have been updated with the collector IP details.
  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x is used with Standard or non-VCF Enterprise license editions, but VCF Operations for Networks is version 9.1 and VCF is version 9.1.
  • The restapi.log in the platform shows the following errors pertaining to the license.
YYYY-MM-DDT11:15:42.649Z INFO restapilayer 37032 [netw@4413 class="settings.licensing.KeylessLicensingHelper" thread="KeylessLicensingVCFValidityChecker-0" method="isFunctioningVCF9VC" line="573"] VC with dpId: VCENTER_Datasource_FQDN is NOT a functioning VCF v9 VC.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1
  • VCF Operations for Networks 9.1

Cause

VCF Operations for Networks is licensed as VCF_LICENSED via VCF Operations. vCenter data collection is not enabled here, as Operations for Networks requires a v9 VCF vCenter with an Operations for Networks entitlement.

Resolution

  • For VCenter versions 8.0 or earlier within a VCF-licensed  VCF Operations for Networks 9.1 environment, data collection is supported only if an additional v9 VCF vCenter is added to VCF Operations for Networks.

  • Alternatively, you upgrade the affected vCenter to version 9.1 and enable the IPFIX from the VCF Operations Console.
