HCI Cost Driver export returns invalid or empty data in VCF Operations 9.1.0 after upgrade

Issue/Introduction

• After upgrading to VCF Operations 9.1.0, the export for "Server Hardware – Hyperconverged (HCI)" incorrectly returns traditional (non-HCI) server hardware entries instead of HCI servers. If all servers are HCI (vSAN enabled), the export will be empty.
  
  
• Attempting to import cost drivers from a previous export may result in the following:
  
  Cost driver validation failed.
Ignore Error. Download log file
• Other export reports, such as Licensing, function as expected, the HCI cost driver export fails to include systems that are present in the environment.
  
  
• The underlying costing engine calculation and cost driver entries managed via the GUI remain persistent and are not affected by this issue.
  
  
• Diagnostic analysis of the /storage/log/vcops/log/bm-controller.log confirms that metrics are populated correctly (i.e. vsanEnabled=true), but the systems are being excluded in the exported data:
  
  ...ServerHardwareCostDriverHelper.lambda$getDataFromStore$2] - Populated items from metrics for VROPS... Removing Vertex ... as invalid vertex of type vp[empty] from the graph 'tinkergraph[vertices:#### edges:####]'

 

Environment

• VCF Operations 9.1.0

Cause

The issue is caused by a known defect in the cost engine's data retrieval and export process that will be fixed in the next product release.

Resolution

1. Upgrade to the next release of VCF Operations to resolve this defect.
2. Monitor the VCF Operations 9.1 Release Notes for the official notification of the release and perform the upgrade when available.

NOTE: No manual database remediation or workaround is required / available, as the underlying costing engine and calculation processes remain functional.
