Issue/Introduction

After upgrading the environment to VCF 9.1 DSM vCenter plugin is reporting the below error:

ServiceAccount vCenter root folder view privilege check failed. Cause: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: Server certificate chain is not trusted and thumbprint verification is not configured

DSM is on version 2.2.3

Inability to create new databases within the DSM environment.

Environment

VMware VCF 9.1

VMware DSM 2.2.3

Cause

The DSM 2.x plugin is not supported with VMware VCF 9.1. KB 394103 confirms the vCenter and DSM thumbprints are in sync with each other and KB 429500 confirms the DSM user in vCenter has the proper privileges, ruling out configuration errors.

Resolution

  1. Perform a step upgrade of the Data Services Manager. There is no direct path from 2.2.3 to 9.1.
  2. Upgrade DSM from 2.2.3 to 9.0.
  3. Upgrade DSM from 9.0 to 9.1.
