Issue/Introduction

Cluster autoscaler package is repeatedly remediated. PackageInstall (pkgi) status repeatedly changed between "force reconciling" and "reconcile succeeded."

Environment

VKS 3.5+ with add-on manger.

TMC-SM 1.4.5 and earlier.

Cause

When Cluster Autoscaler is installed or managed simultaneously by both Tanzu Mission Control Self-Managed and the native vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) Add-On Manager, reconciliation conflicts occur. Both management controllers attempt to update and reconcile the same PackageInstall (pkgi) custom resource in the workload cluster, which can lead to configuration drift, status toggling, or reconciliation failures.

Resolution

The cluster-autoscaler must be managed exclusively by Tanzu Mission Control Self-Managed. Simultaneous management by both VKS and Tanzu Mission Control Self-Managed is not supported. To prevent update conflicts where both systems attempt to modify the package, you must uninstall the existing VKS-managed cluster-autoscaler package. To uninstall the VKS-Managed Cluster Autoscaler, perform the following steps.

• Login the supervisor cluster and locate the target VKS cluster.
• Update the label 

  addon.addons.kubernetes.vmware.com/cluster-autoscaler

   to "

  unmanaged"
