Issue/Introduction

  • In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.1, expanding the VMware Cloud Foundation license under VCF Operations UI > Licenses & Registration > Version 9+ displays the following error:

     "The due date for submitting your usage report has passed and you will lose access to your service on MM-DD-YYYY. To prevent service interruption, download a usage file and submit it in the VCF Business Service Console."

  •  License Server management pane (VCF Operations UI > Licenses & Registration > Manage > License Servers) indicates the appliance was not deployed during the initial environment setup.

  • Virtual Machines fail to power on due to the unlicensed state of the host.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1
  • VCF Operations 9.1

 

Cause

The required VCF 9.1 dedicated License Server appliance was omitted during the initial deployment, preventing active license allocations from being processed and causing VCF Operations to enter an unlicensed state where UI updates are blocked.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and restore license management functionality, perform the following procedure:

  1. Deploy the VCF License Server OVA within the VCF environment. (Reference : Deploy VCF Management Services and License Server as Part of VCF Upgrade to 9.1)

  2. Register VCF Operations and the deployed License Server with the VCF Business Services Console. (Reference : Registering VCF Operations and a License Server with the VCF Business Services Console)

  3. Navigate to VCF Operations UI > Licenses & Registration and assign the new active primary license keys for the vCenter and ESXi hosts.
