nxe_monitor alarms display IP address instead of hostname in UIM

Issue/Introduction

Alarms generated by the vnxe_monitor probe display the IP address in the Source or Hostname fields within the Alarm Console, even when a specific hostname is intended. This often occurs in DX UIM environments where resources are targeted by IP address.

Environment

• Product: DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM)
• Probe: vnxe_monitor (v1.03T1 and earlier)
• Components: nas, discovery_server

Resolution

Option 1: Fix DNS or NAS Name Services (Recommended) Ensure that the hub running the nas probe can resolve all target IP addresses.

1. Verify that proper reverse DNS (PTR records) exist for all monitored IPs on your network.
2. Alternatively, you can hardcode the mapping directly in the nas probe:
   • Open the nas probe configuration.
   • Navigate to the Name Services tab.
   • Ensure Enable name services is checked.
   • Go to the Address Table sub-tab and manually add the IP-to-Hostname mappings (e.g., ###.###.###.### to Hostname) for the missing devices.
   • Right-click the entry and select Lock to prevent it from being overwritten.

Option 2: Update Probe Resource Configuration Directly update the probe to send the hostname instead of the IP.

1. Open the vnxe_monitor probe via Raw Configure.
2. Locate the resource section (e.g., <###.###.###.###>).
3. Change the id and name parameters from the IP address to the actual hostname of the device (ensuring the robot server can resolve this name).
4. Restart the probe.

Verification: Trigger a test alarm from the vnxe_monitor probe. The alarm source in the Operator Console or Infrastructure Manager should now reflect the hostname instead of the IP address.
