VCF Operations

Issue/Introduction

VCF Operations instances running in disconnected (offline) mode may report a "License Expired" or "License Invalid" status even when a valid multi-year subscription is held. This occurs due to the reporting requirements of the centralized licensing architecture.

  • VCF Operations UI displays a license expired error.
  • Hosts may show as disconnected or workload operations are blocked.
  • License validity reflects a date significantly earlier than the actual contract end date.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

VCF Operations in disconnected mode requires a manual update of license usage data at least once every 180 days (6 months). If usage data is not submitted within this window, the system transitions the license to an expired state to comply with subscription reporting.

Resolution

To restore license validity and extend the reporting window for another 180 days, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI.
  2. Navigate to Manage > Licensing > Licenses & Registration.
  3. Select the option to Generate Usage File and save the file locally.
  4. From a machine with internet access, log in to the VCF Business Services console.
  5. Navigate to Licensing > VCF Operations Registrations.
  6. Upload the usage file generated in Step 3.
  7. Download the newly generated Solution License File.
  8. Return to the VCF Operations UI and navigate to Registration Details.
  9. Click Import License File and upload the file obtained in Step 7.
  10. Verify that the expiration date has been extended.
