Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1, enabling High Availability (HA) on a Small deployment is not supported. Administrators must not attempt to enable HA on a Small deployment using any method, including bypassing the UI using direct API calls or automation scripts.
Forcing this configuration in VCF 9.1 will place the system into an unsupported, broken, and unrecoverable state.

Cause

In VCF 9.1, HA is not supported on small deployments by design.

Resolution

The guidance depends on the VCF version in use:

• For VCF 9.1: Do not attempt to enable HA on small deployments. If HA is required, plan a scale-up to a medium size deployment.

• For VCF 9.1.1.0 and later: This limitation no longer applies. Starting with VCF 9.1.1.0, the small deployment size provides full capability and is optimized for production environments that require High Availability.
