NSX Remote Tunnel Endpoints (RTEP) Connectivity Lost After Upgrade to VCF 9.1.0

Issue/Introduction

During or after an upgrade to VCF version 9.1.0, remote tunnel endpoint (RTEP) connectivity between sites in a multi-site stretched NSX network is lost.

The RTEP configuration at one or both sides is missing after the upgrade.

This issue can occur when:

• NSX is being upgraded to 9.1.0
• A rolling restart of NSX Manager nodes has occurred or is currently in progress as part of the upgrade
• A local manager site was created in an NSX version prior to 3.2.0

Environment

VCF 9.1.0

NSX 9.1.0

Cause

During an upgrade to NSX 9.1.0, under certain conditions, a known software issue can be encountered where RTEP configuration data is not handled correctly.

If a local manager (LM) site was created in NSX versions prior to 3.2.0, an empty API response during the rolling restart can cause the RTEP policy object to enter a pending delete state that will not clear on its own.

This issue has been fixed in NSX version 9.1.1 and later versions.

Resolution

If this issue occurs, open a Broadcom Support case and reference this KB for assistance with resolving this condition.

A software fix has been implemented and this issue can be avoided by downloading the latest available version prior to performing an upgrade.
