Issue/Introduction

Upon accessing the VMware Aria Operations for Networks (formerly vRealize Network Insight) appliance through a web browser, a 'Not Secure' warning appears. The warning typically surfaces after applying a certificate update to the appliance.

Cause

The 'Not Secure' warning displays because the active certificate on the VMware Aria Operations for Networks appliance is self-signed. A self-signed certificate features identical entries in both the 'Issued To' and 'Issued By' fields.

By default, commercial web browsers untrust self-signed certificates, which triggers the security alert.

Resolution

Resolving the warning requires configuration changes on the local network and client workstations.

Internal IT or Security personnel must distribute and trust the newly applied certificate (or the internal Root CA certificate) across all user endpoints.

The distribution is routinely managed through centralized corporate security policies (such as Group Policy).

Once endpoint browsers recognize and trust the certificate source, the security warning resolves automatically.
