File Event Fails with FAULT_OTHER / U02000161 "Event with the Same ID Found"

Issue/Introduction

A File Event (EVNT.FILE) object fails with status FAULT_OTHER - Start impossible. Other error, with the following as the last message in the task report:

U02000161 Event with the same id ('<EVENT_ID>') found, no new event will be created.

The Agent log shows the full sequence for the affected occurrence:

<timestamp> - U00065000 New file event ('<EVENT_ID>') will be started, type '<path/pattern> [COUNT, MODIFIED]'.
<timestamp> - U02000161 Event with the same id ('<EVENT_ID>') found, no new event will be created.
<timestamp> - U02000162 Event '<EVENT_ID>' was removed from event list.
<timestamp> - U00065015 Event <EVENT_ID> completed

No duplicate File Event object, calendar entry, or object ID exists in the client that would explain a genuine duplicate. The underlying file condition is still detected correctly by the Agent (the sequence ends in U00065015 ... completed), but the Automation Engine marks that specific occurrence as failed.
