VCF 9.1 Licensing server deployment in an environment without DNS

Issue/Introduction

Deploying a VCF 9.1 Licensing in a site without external network connectivity or DNS resolution and experiencing issues with trying to get the Licensing server to complete Boot after deploying it from an OVA.

Environment

VCF 9.1 

Cause

During the OVA deployment the Domain Name Servers section was left empty as there were no DNS server's present in the environment and the hostname was populated with the IP of the License Server.

Then once the VM is powered on the VCF 9.1 Licensing is failing to complete boot and stuck in ' Finished Record Runlevel Change in UTMP. ' section without proceeding past this section. 

This is due to the VCF 9.1 Licensing server not able to resolve DNS.

The Licensing Server is locked down and not able to accept any changes after the OVA is deployed, this is by design.

Therefore we are not able to add DNS servers or Static DNS entries in /etc/hosts file.

Resolution

During the OVA deployment of the VCF 9.1 Licensing Server , in the Domain Name Servers section populate this section with Loopback or 127.0.0.1 and the IP of the License Server.

Once the License Server completes Boot, it should show up with a dashboard output like the example below and ' Service Status: Nominal ' .
