lookup_passwords Utility Fails with "Error occurred during lookup!"

Issue/Introduction

After executing an SDDC Manager password rotation, attempting to retrieve credentials using the lookup_passwords utility results in the following error:

• Error occurred during lookup!

Further investigation reveals an inconsistency in functionality depending on the entity type provided:

• Queries for NSXT_MANAGER entity types complete successfully.
• Queries for NSX_MANAGER entity types fail consistently with the error message above.

Resolution

The lookup_passwords utility distinguishes between different generations of NSX components. It is critical to select the entity type that matches your environment:

• NSXT_MANAGER: Used for NSX-T Manager nodes. This includes credentials for roles such as admin, root, and audit.
• NSX_MANAGER / NSX_CONTROLLER: Used for NSX-V (legacy) components.
