Unable to activate High Availability (HA) in VCF Operations cluster

Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to activate High Availability (HA) in a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations cluster, the action fails.
• The following UI banner or error message is observed: 

  Activate High Availability Important Information about High Availability Before activating HA, you should be aware of the following items: Insufficient capacity: The current deployment size does not meet the minimum requirements for High Availability. To enable HA, scale up cluster nodes to a larger configuration. Refer to the sizing guide for supported configurations.

• The VCF Operations data nodes use the exact same configuration as the primary node
• The following error appears in /storage/log/vcops/log/casa/casa.log during VCF Operations HA activation:

  main ERROR Validation failed, passed arguments didnot match with the defined arguments nodeNum=####,cpu=####,mem=####,iops=0,diskExistingNodes=0.0,diskNewNodes=-####.####,disk=-####.####,errorCode=1

Cause

This issue occurs when the cluster data nodes are deployed on different IP subnets relative to the primary node. In VCF Operations, all analytics and data nodes forming a single HA cluster must reside within the same local IP subnet. Multi-subnet deployments across data nodes are not supported for High Availability configurations.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, redeploy or reconfigure the cluster data nodes so that all nodes reside on the exact same IP subnet as the primary node.

1. Review your network architecture to identify an available single IP subnet capable of hosting all planned nodes.

2. Ensure the primary node, and any data nodes are placed within this shared IP subnet.

3. Once all cluster nodes reside on the same IP subnet, retry activating High Availability via the VCF Operations Cluster Management interface.
