Content library synchronization fails with error "Managed object of type Folder with value #### does not exist" in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

When you synchronize an external content library in VMware Cloud Director, the synchronization task fails.

In the task logs, you observe the following error:
com.vmware.ssdc.library.exceptions.ManagedObjectNotFoundException: Managed object of type "Folder" with value "####" does not exist.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The folder Managed Object Reference (MoREF) stored in the VMware Cloud Director database for the content library's storage backing does not match the actual folder inventory in VMware vCenter Server. This desynchronization prevents VMware Cloud Director from locating the required path during the synchronization process.

Resolution

Follow these steps to verify and reconcile the folder reference:

1. Open a web browser and navigate to the vCenter Server Managed Object Browser (MOB): https://<vCenter_FQDN>/mob/?moid=####

2. Verify whether the MoREF #### exists in the vCenter Server inventory hierarchy.

3. Confirm if the folder was deleted, moved, or renamed within vCenter Server.

4. If there are no workloads running in the impacted Organization Virtual Data Center (Org VDC) and the corresponding folder was removed from vCenter Server:

   • Create a new Org VDC.

   • Subscribe to and synchronize the content library within the new Org VDC.

5. If workloads exist or database updates are required,  Create a support request and reference this issue.

6. Provide Support Engineering with the specific MoREF identifier and the VMware Cloud Director cell logs: Collecting diagnostic information for VMware Cloud Director..

7. Retry the library synchronization from the VMware Cloud Director Provider or Tenant portal after reconciliation is completed.
