Metadata sync task for Depot in SDDC Manager/ VCF Operations fails with the following error: "Lifecycle Metadata Sync Failed"

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations/SDDC Manager 9.1, users may encounter a failure when attempting to sync metadata.

• The Binary Management tab in VCF Operations/SDDC Manager displays a prompt stating:

  Lifecycle Metadata Sync Failed
  Vmware compatibility data download failed.

Environment

• VCF Services Runtime 9.1
• VCF SDDC Manager 9.1

Cause

Outbound network access to the public Broadcom URLs required for downloading binaries is blocked for the VCF Services Runtime cluster.

Resolution

1. To resolve this issue, you must allow outbound traffic on TCP port 443 from the VCF Services Runtime IPs to the following Broadcom endpoints. Refer: Public URL list for VCF Products

   dl.broadcom.com
   eapi.broadcom.com
   vvs.broadcom.com
   vsanhealth.vmware.com

    
2. Once the URLs are whitelisted, configure the Software Depot in Connected Mode. Refer: Configure a Software Depot Connection Mode
