Error "VIB does not contain a signature" while installing VIB on ESXi host

Issue/Introduction

• Installation of a VIB package on an ESXi host fails with errors related to digital signature verification.
• This is common when installing third-party VIBs, particularly in environments with Secure Boot enabled.
• Installation fails with error: "VIB contains an invalid or corrupted signature."
• Installation logs in /var/log/esxupdate.log or /var/log/lifecycle.log indicate signature validation failures.

Cause

The VIB package lacks a valid digital signature required by the ESXi package installation policy (Secure Boot requires signed VIBs).

Resolution

1. Obtain Signed Package (Recommended): Contact the vendor (e.g., Zerto) to obtain an updated VIB bundle that is officially signed by a VMware-trusted Certificate Authority.
