Issue/Introduction

Following an upgrade to z/OS 3.2, SMF Type 30 Subtype 2 records may be dropped or fail to be recorded for specific address spaces.

Impact on MICS

This issue has direct implications for MICS Accounting and Chargeback processes:

• Accounting/Chargeback: MICS processes may fail to account for address spaces where the SMF
  Type 30 Subtype 2 records are missing.
  
  
• Reporting:  Queries generating address space-level CPU consumption reports may produce
  inaccurate results, leading to the under-reporting of CPU consumption for the affected address spaces.

Cause

The issue is caused by a change in behavior introduced with z/OS 3.2, which results in the intermittent
failure to record or the dropping of SMF Type 30 Subtype 2 records for certain address spaces. This is
an environment-specific condition documented by IBM under APAR OA69599, which affects how SMF
data is captured and subsequently processed by downstream applications like MICS.

Resolution

MICS is unable to resolve this issue, as it originates at the operating system level.
