updatemgr service crashes and generates "core.updatemgr-worke.*" on the vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

• Update manager service crashes every two days
• Service crash generates multiple cores named 'core.updatemgr-worke.*' files filling up /storage/core
• /var/log/vmon.log shows update manager service dumping cores as below:

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

This issue occurs when ClusterHclValidateTask is stalled while attempting to acquire a resource lock, eventually failing and crashing the updatemgr service.

Resolution

Broadcom is aware of this issue and will include a fix in the upcoming vCenter Server patch release (8.0 U3l).

Additionally, this has already been resolved in VMware vCenter Server 9.0.
