VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • After replacing an expired Machine SSL certificate on the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA), recurring email alerts are received from the storage array.
  • The alert code is vcenter_vasa_provider_unavailable (0x02200105).
  • In the vSphere Client, a red error banner may have previously appeared stating: Error occurred while fetching machine certificates - Service not found: com.vmware.vcenter.certificate_management.vcenter.tis.
  • The VASA provider may show as Online in vCenter, but the alerts persist hourly.

Environment

  • vCenter Server: 8.x
  • Storage: Dell PowerStore

Cause

The Dell PowerStore system retains a stale connection state and does not automatically trust the newly generated vCenter Machine SSL certificate. Even if the provider is re-authenticated within vCenter, the storage array requires a manual configuration update to explicitly accept and store the new vCenter SSL certificate thumbprint.

Resolution

For detailed troubleshooting of the vcenter_vasa_provider_unavailable (0x02200105) event or if the alerts persist after the update, please reach out to Dell Support for further assistance. Dell PowerStore Events and Alerts Reference Guide

Prerequisites from Broadcom Side.

  • Ensure the vCenter Machine SSL certificate has been successfully replaced (e.g., using the vCert utility).
  • Verify that the vCenter Server is accessible from the storage array.
  • Take a file-based backup or snapshot of the vCenter Server before making management changes.
