Tanzu Kubernetes Releases TKR status False due to TKG Service version incompatibility

Issue/Introduction

Tanzu Kubernetes Releases (TKRs) v1.30.8+vmware.1-fips-vkr.1 and v1.30.14+vmware.1-fips-vkr.3 report a status of False when running kubectl get tkr due to a version incompatibility with the active Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) Service.

Environment

 

• vCenter Server: 8.0 Update 3g (Build 24853646)

• Supervisor Version: v1.30.10+vmware.1-fips

• TKG Service: 3.1.1-embedded

• Guest Cluster Versions: v1.30.1, v1.28.8, v1.29.4

 

Cause

The installed TKG Service version 3.1.1-embedded is incompatible with TKRs v1.30.8+vmware.1-fips-vkr.1 and v1.30.14+vmware.1-fips-vkr.3, causing kubectl get tkr to report a False status.

Resolution

 

• Perform a full file-based VAMI backup of the vCenter Server and take a backup of the Supervisor cluster before proceeding.

• Perform a direct upgrade of the TKG Service from version 3.1.1-embedded to version 3.3.3-embedded.

• Verify that version 3.3.3-embedded resolves the TKR False status and maintains compatibility across all active Supervisor and Guest Cluster versions.
