Issue/Introduction

After installing or upgrading vSphere, the vSAN Skyline Health check reports the following warning:

• Controller firmware is VMware certified
• Impacted Device:  DEVICE_MODEL
• Detected Firmware Version: VERSION_IN_USE
• Status: Yellow

VMware vCenter Server (All versions)

VMware vSAN (All versions)

Cause

The firmware version is not currently listed as a certified version in the Broadcom Hardware Compatibility List for the specific disk and the specific vSphere version installed.

Resolution

To resolve this warning, update the drive firmware to a version officially certified on the HCL.

• Identify the current PCI IDs (VID, DID, SVID, SSID) for the drives using the command: esxcli vsan debug controller list
• Cross-reference these IDs against the Broadcom Compatibility Guide.
• Find a certified version and plan a maintenance window.
• Update the firmware using the appropriate vendor tool/procedure.
