NSX Upgrade from 9.0.2 to 9.1 Fails Due to SDDC Backup Scheduler Configuration

Issue/Introduction

The upgrade of VMware NSX from version 9.0.2 to 9.1 is failing due to issues with the NSX manager backup schedule.

Below is the error seen on SDDC side:

When attempting to edit the NSX backup scheduler to enable it, the configuration fails to save, and no explicit error messages are thrown. 

Environment

VMware NSX 9.0.2

VMware NSX 9.1

 

Cause

The issue is caused by incorrect backup SFTP server details and a missing NSX backup schedule configuration on the SDDC side.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps to verify and correct the backup configuration:

1. Log in to the SDDC Manager and navigate to the NSX backup settings.
2. Verify that the SFTP server details (hostname, port, directory path, and credentials) are correct.
3. If the configuration UI is unresponsive or fails to save, check the NSX Manager side to see if the backup schedule is visible.
4. Correct the SFTP configuration and re-attempt to save the backup schedule.
5. Once the backup schedule is successfully saved and visible from both the SDDC and NSX sides, retry the NSX upgrade.
