Introduction:
Would like to verify the following variables in the VARBLIST member prior to upgrade to r18.5 from r18.
Question:
The values in the r18.5 SAMPJCL(VARBLIST) have changed from what was in r18.0.
Do we have to use the default values as delivered in the VARBLIST member or is it okay to change the values to match our 18.0 release?
In particular the VARBLIST variables listed below:
18.5 = GJSDMLOW = 2001 Starting page of SYSTEM.DDLDML area
18.0 = GJSDMLOW = 1001 Starting page of SYSTEM.DDLDML area
18.5 = GJSLOLOW = 3501 Starting page of SYSTEM.DDLDCLOD area
18.0 = GJSLOLOW = 3001 Starting page of SYSTEM.DDLDCLOD area
18.5 = GJCCTNPG = 1600 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCAT'
18.0 = GJCCTNPG = 600 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCAT'
18.5 = GJCCLLOW = 1606 Starting page of CATSYS.DCCATLOD area
18.0 = GJCCLLOW = 751 Starting page of CATSYS.DCCATLOD area
18.5 = GJCCLNPG = 250 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCATL'
18.0 = GJCCLNPG = 200 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCATL'
18.5 = GJCCXLOW = 1861 Starting page of CATSYS.DCCATX area
18.0 = GJCCXLOW = 601 Starting page of CATSYS.DCCATX area
18.5 = GJCCXNPG = 120 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCATX'
18.0 = GJCCXNPG = 100 Number of pages (blocks) in 'DCCATX'
Answer:
The variables in the VARBLIST that are related to database allocation are NOT used for an UPGRADE CONFIGURATION.
The variables for mentioned are only used for 'Complete Base Configurations'. A Complete Base Configuration will use the variables related to allocation and page range parameters for your database files to create new dictionaries. When a Complete Base Configuration is being performed it is entirely up to you whether you choose to change the values from the defaults delivered or if you want to change them to meet you sites need or preference.
When you perform an 'UPGRADE CONFIGURATION' from an older release of CA IDMS to a new release (18.5/19.0), then the variables related to database file allocation and page ranges are ignored. An Upgrade Configuration preserves and operates with your existing dictionaries and database files and does not allocate, format, or initialize dictionaries or database files.
